No, you don’t need to participate in all challenges to compete in Hackerverse CTF. However, participating in more challenges increases your chances of climbing the leaderboard and qualifying for End of Season awards.

Most challenges from earlier in the season remain accessible for players to solve and earn points. However, Offensive Security Challenges are only available during the month they are released.

Points to Remember:

  1. Challenge Access:
    • If you register in April, you can still play challenges from January and February.
    • March challenges, including Offensive Security Challenges, will no longer be available as they are exclusive to their release month.
  2. Maximizing Points:
    • Solve challenges as soon as they’re released for the highest point rewards. The dynamic scoring system favors early submissions.
  3. Prize Eligibility:
    • Participants are eligible for prizes only in the month they register.
    • For example, if you register in April, you can win April prizes and compete for End Of Season awards, but you are not eligible for prizes from January, February, or March.

To maximize your chances of success, monitor communication channels and participate every month. Early engagement is key to climbing the leaderboard and claiming grand prizes!

Challenge Scoring System

Our dynamic scoring system rewards both skill and speed. The faster you solve challenges, the more points you earn.

At EC-Council, we pride ourselves on transparency, so we’re laying it all out for you.

  • Dynamic Scoring: A challenge’s point value decreases with each solve. This means, the faster you solve, the more points you earn. As more players complete a challenge, the point value naturally decreases.
  • Fair Play: scoring system ensures easier, frequently solved challenges are worth fewer points than harder, less solved ones.

Initial challenge points range from 10 to 500, based on difficulty and category.

The scoring system tracks three key values per challenge:

Initial: The starting point value
Decay: Number of solves before reaching minimum points
Minimum: The lowest possible point value

The point decay follows this formula:

value = (((minimum - initial) / (decay ** 2)) * (solve_count ** 2)) + initial value = math.ceil(value)

If the calculated value falls below the minimum, the minimum value is used instead.

Why Parabolic Decay?

This system ensures higher-value challenges keep their worth longer, unlike linear or exponential methods. It rewards precision and timing, keeping the competition fair and exciting.

Hackerverse CTF is designed for individual participants. Teams or collaborations are not permitted to ensure fair competition.

Your performance is tracked on the Hackerverse CTF leaderboard. You can view your ranking and points in real time as you complete the challenges.
